The Dark Knight Against Titanic

After watching The Dark Knight completely demolish every record that has ever been set in the two weeks that the film has been out, one has to wonder how much damage this movie can do in the box office. The Dark Knight made more money its opening day, opening weekend and opening week then any other movie and was the fastest movie ever to reach $300 million. Obviously this is a pretty impressive run and we are seeing history in the making. The movie is also #23 on the all time box office list already and can only go up from there.

The first movie on the list is Titanic, the second being the first Star Wars film which is then followed Shrek 2. I honestly think the The Dark Knight will at least make the top 5 list. This movie on both IMBD and Yahoo Movies is averaging the best rating of all time, even ahead of The Godfather.

The numbers were also just released that The Dark Knight made a little over $10 million today (Monday), and it is going to have to make over $50 million by Sunday if it wants to keep in the record streak.

The big news is whether or not it can reach Titanic, one of the biggest movies off all time. Making over $1.6 billion world wide, it has made more money then any other movie ever. The only question is whether or not The Dark Knight can pass this up. Technically the movie is on track, but it would have to pass $600 million in the United States alone. I think it’s very possible if people go and see this movie over and over, and bring a new friend every single time.

The Titanic interested many different genders and age groups as well, and The Dark Knight is known to be for ‘teen and middle-aged men’, but I know plenty of females that are big fans of the movie as well, so I don’t think it is fair to say that. I think it would be awesome to live through history like this and see The Dark Knight take the first place spot in the all time box office list. Even if it is unlikely. Comment and let me know what you think. Does it even stand a chance against the Titanic, or do you think it’s out of the question completely?

  1. Speaking from the perspective of someone who never pays for movie tickets…I will do every thing I can so that DARK KNIGHT BLOWS TITANIC OUT OF THE WATER. Maybe I’m just fooling myself because frankly I find it thoroughly embarrassing that Titanic holds the record and has held that record for 10 years now. But I think it has a chance. As I said, I usually sneak into movies, but for Dark Knight I bought advanced IMAX tickets and waited in line for 3.5 hrs in a room full of scene kids at 3am just to see it. And it was worth it. And I will go back. And I will harass everybody I run into to see this film. Several times. I will compete with everyone I know for who can see it the most times in theaters.

So. I think it has a chance. It COULD win.

And if it doesn’t…I blame the fact that Celine Dion wasn’t involved in the soundtrack.

    Sweet site by the way.

  2. Well thanks for the compliment, and if the Dark Knight does top Titanic, I am sure you will get a thank you card in the mail from Nolan himself. Haha, I plan on seeing it one more time, making it 4, before they take it out of theaters.

  3. [...] This just goes to show that what we are seeing with ‘The Dark Knight’ is history in the making, and the first time we have seen anything like this since ‘Titanic’ in 1997. One has to wonder if ‘The Dark Knight’ can pass up the ‘Titanic’, and from the looks of things it is a possibility. I actually wrote a story a while ago discussing the possibilities, and you can read that story here. [...]
